Re: December cycle buddies

Hi all,

Kate- nice to have you back with us, hope all goes smoothly for you on the run upto ovulation/transfer.

Gem- Sounds like they have made some positive changes for your protocol this time which is good news. I hope it makes a difference for you :) Thanks for recommending that podcast I listened to it last week and found it really useful (I did find myself feeling a bit jealous of the American insurance system though when they said that most ladies get 3 cycles with their insurance companies!). My review was okay, as expected she didn't recommend the tests until 3 failed transfers. Interestingly, she said that if the Thrombophilia blood tests come back positive then I can't go ahead with a cycle as I would need to be retested 6 weeks later - did anyone say that to you? She also had no idea about the bloods that screen for auto-immune antibodies (i assume that was the one that showed the problem with your levels?) so that was a bit strange!! I was tempted to have the bloods and not the invasive tests (era etc) but I wasn't convinced that the results would come back in time before my next period and they wouldn't let me start a cycle whilst waiting for results so just going ahead with another cycle in Feb. Turns out I was taking too low a dose of vit d  so have upped that now and also joining you all on the probiotics.

Thanks for the probiotic tips Kate. Was tempted by the Canesflor but wanted to double check with someone- did someone at care recommend Canesflor to you Oneday based on your levels from the tests? I wonder if they are a higher dose or maybe have more of an impact as they are pessaries and are absorbed better. The pregnancy optibac have one of the same strains of Lactobacillus strains as the Women one. But the women one has two additional strains and the pregnancy one only has one additional. So maybe the Women version is better in terms of vaginal probiotics. I have no idea what the different strains do though and whether any are any better than others! Seems a shame that Care don't offer more advice on it (my consultant said just get any that have lactobacillus in it- helpful!).

Good luck for Sunday Oneday

Hi HDT

sounds like you have lots more information and are heading in the right direction.

Vitamin D wise I take D3 with K3, oil drops from Amazon, which are supposed to be good. Will try to pop a pic on.

Regarding the Canesflor yes! Following my ERA EMMA ALICE tests that was the UK brand recommended alongside my results.

I took Optibac before testing but still needed more lactobacillus so finished off with those. I am not taking Optibac at the moment though, I figured I'd go onto a simple vitamins regime - pregnacare prenatal, D3, omega 3, calcium, vitamin C and folate.

I was taking 18 pills a day between July and Dec which was becoming tiresome and expensive!

Thanks for mentioning Optibac women vs pregnancy, I will also ask care nurses when I speak to them on Monday.

Hi HDT!

Nobody mentioned what would happen if the tests were positive so I’m not sure about that! The blood tests I had were called “level 1” at Northampton - this is from the leaflet and it was the second bullet about autoimmune that flagged up my TPO antibody issue.

Level 1 tests rule out the more straightforward medical problems that can cause recurrent IVF failure or miscarriage.
The tests we recommend if you are planning to carry a pregnancy might include
Thrombophilia screening to check whether you are atrisk of your blood clotting more easily than it should. This scree ning looks at levels of anticardiolipin antibodies, antithrombin III, Factor V Leiden, activated protein C resistance, protein C, protein S, lupus antico a gulant, polymorphism of PAIP factor ll and prothrombin.
• Screening for auto-immune antibodies that might be present if your body is making antibodies against itself including anti-nuclear, thyroid peroxidise and anti-mito chondrial antibodies.

I’m glad you found the podcasts helpful, I think it’s good to know the options just in case but hopefully the next transfer will be successful and you won’t need to worry about any of it!!

My medication arrived today so just waiting for day 1 now!

Hope you’re doing ok Oneday! Will think of you this weekend xx

Hi HDT!

Thank you to you and ONEDAY for the advice about Canesfloor - I've just ordered some of that after your recommendations - my consultant didn't tell me exactly which to take so was going blind but appreciate the advice 😊
HDT how are you feeling about things with your next transfer with Feb fast approaching?

Gembryo - hope you're doing ok too and feeling a bit more at ease with all the meds? Sorry if I asked before, are you medicated cycle this time?
Honestly, wouldn't worry about the steroids, theres a lot of scaremongering around them but I also had no side effects and felt really good!
Last cycle i was on 20mg but on the day of transfer and doing the same this time. I do have my queries as to why not before but was told the MC was either chromosomal abnormalities or lining issues. Also on a host of anti histamines as I was found to have Histamine intolerance which is a major cause of recurrent MC also🤦‍♀️

Looks like we're going to be back in the Feb group together, here's hoping third time lucky all around!!!

Oneday, thinking of you this weekend. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way xx

It's good to know that us sharing what the clinics tell us is actually helping to query/answer some of the nagging questions this process can bring up.

Oohhhh you are really well informed, it went over my head but will help those in a similar position for sure.

I tried scrolling back through, but can't find it....what podcast were mentioned? I feel like I've listened to most of the main ones (and been taking a break during TWW) I've been listening to audio books to try to manage my obsessing but will book mark your suggestions 😉

Re: December cycle buddies

Hi Kate,

Yes feeling ok about the meds, I’m on same quite high oestrogen from day 1 and the progesterone from around day 15 but this time with the steroids from day 6 I think. Not sure at what point the blood thinners come in. Wow I’ve never heard of the histamine issue, it’s just the gift that keeps on giving isn’t it!! 😩

I tried acupuncture for the first time this week, have no idea if it will make much difference but I didn’t mind it.

Oneday - don’t worry I just copy and pasted that from the leaflet, it’s all still mind blowing to me as well 😂

The podcast I mentioned was Beat Infertility but it was a specific episode around the endometrial biopsies, I’ve not listened to any more of it. Obviously love Big Fat Negative as the best UK one. Hopefully you won’t need any more of these podcasts after Sunday 🍀🤞🏼🍀

Yes Big Fat Negative is great!!! I got so much information prior to starting listening to them.

I have been having acupuncture since 2016 for various reasons. I love it!!! I wouldn't say its a wonder cure ( quite clearly..lol) but I always feel calm, relaxed and seem to be able to manage stress better when I go. I have also been in therapy since March last year in preparation for my journey ending without a baby, it's been a long road and I decided I will be getting off the train either way.

Re: December cycle buddies

Hi all,

I will have to check those podcasts out, they sound very useful!

Hope you had some positive news on Sunday Oneday?

Gem/Kate, I won't be joining you in the Feb cycle sadly :( I had a nurse planning meeting yesterday. She asked me when my last smear test was (the first person at care to ever ask me!) - it was out of date as of last November. I'd been meaning to get it done but obvs couldn't in dec with the transfer and then simply forgot this month. Turns out they don't advise a transfer without an up to date smear test because they wouldn't want to transfer an embryo if there was a chance there was something bad going on in the cervix. She said they can do a cycle but have to note down that it was against medical advice and it could impact NHS funding. Makes complete sense not to do a transfer without a smear test but I am just gutted that no one thought to ask me this before now (like maybe the consultant! a couple of weeks ago?) as I actually had a transfer when it was out of date in December as well! Because my period is due to start on Friday there isn't enough time to get a test done and get the results back before then. One nurse said that I could start the drugs and hope the test results came back in time but the senior nurse advised against it as she felt it would be too stresseful to have those couple of weeks taking drugs not knowing if the results would come back in time. I looked at private but I am away from tomorrow-Sun so there just isn't time sadly. Has anyone else had this with care, or been asked about a smear test?

I was planning on having the trio test if this cycle failed, since I now have to wait a month anyway I think I may have them this month. The nurse did make it clear that the Trio test may take longer than one cycle if anything needs repeating or if I need any medication. So my next transfer may not be until April. Feel a bit upset that I may now be delayed for so long but I was going to have the Trio at some point so this does kind of seem a good opportunity to get it done since I have to wait a month anyway. Oneday- how many weeks/months did it take you to get from Trio test to next Transfer?

Hi HDT,

That’s so frustrating for you, I can’t believe nobody mentioned it. I’m now trying to remember when I last had a smear test as nobody has asked me? 😬
But could be a good chance to do the trio as you say, but still upsetting to have any delays. Especially when you were all set for Feb xxx

I have just called today to let them know I’m on day 1 so I’m back on the meds from today.

Oneday, hope you’re ok, been hoping for good news for you xx

Re: December cycle buddies

Hi ladies

HDT, I'd be pissed too BUT, I will say this, it's a brilliant opportunity to not waste time or and embryo, now you can have that smear, ERA and another test you feel necessary now without the sadness, guilt and overwhelm of a failed cycle and a lost blastocyst.

I know that sounds easy to say when I'm not in your shoes, but I was. I started my journey March last year, I decided not one transfer would happen till ALL the tests were done, PGTA, karyotype, ERA TRIO, NATURAL KILLER CELLS, you names it I asked for it regardless of the HFEA traffic lights.

The way I saw it was I don't want trial and error. I am too old and running out of time. I needed to know when I walk away from IVF I did absolutely everything I could. I needed that peace of mind to close this chapter, the cycle of grief is just so exhausting.

So not ideal and like I said, I'd be pissed too.

I hope that once the initial anger wears off you'll find peace in the wait.

Thinking of you...

I had a positive, booked for intralipids next Tues and scan on 14th Feb, they wanted to wait till 21st but I explained not an option for a multiple MMC 'survivor', I can make it 2 weeks not knowing if I am progressing correctly, but not 3.

If this ends I must know sooner rather than later so I can pick myself up and try again.

Are you having a fresh or frozen transfer?

How are you feeling since starting your drugs, feels good to star right, albeit nervous times.

I’m having a frozen, will be my third frozen but fourth transfer overall!

Yes always good to get started on the meds, the oestrogen always makes me a bit nauseous on and off for a couple of days but settles after that. I am on 6 oestrogen tablets from the off this time instead of starting from 2 a day, so that might explain the headache I have right now!

Just been for my 2nd acupuncture session as well x

Yes the headaches!!! I've had one for so long now I'll miss it when it's gone 🤣.

It sucks it's your 4th rodeo, but I hope that means your protocol has been tweaked to perfection with a sprinkle of acupuncture to help calmly get you there too.

Here to some swift weeks!!!

Re: December cycle buddies

Hi everyone!

Having a nightmare this cycle, day 1 came last tues so I notified the clinic and started my oestrogen (6 tablets straight off which is a lot!). Then weds/thurs/fri no period whatsoever. Knowing my body I knew it wouldn’t be done after 1 day of full bleeding so this is off. Clinic assured me that I’d just stopped because of high doses of oestrogen. Period then came back Saturday night 🤦🏻‍♀️ and I’ve been bleeding ever since.

Meant to be having my day 10 scan on Friday (which is actually day 11), but they have said my lining won’t be thick enough since I’m still bleeding now. So delayed to day 14 next Monday.

This is meant to be the easy bit, why is nothing straightforward!! Xxx

Hi Gem,

Oh that sounds really annoying and stressful! Stupid bodies- they need to learn to just behave! Have you been on 6 tablets from the beginning before? How strange that it just stopped though for a bit- glad it's going again now though and doesn't sound like you will be too far behind your planned schedule of dates.

Thanks to you and Oneday for your kind words last week. I feel much better about the whole situation now that more time has passed and am glad we are able to put this month to good use. I am all booked in for blood test and trio test and back on the estrogen tablets now.

Had my smear test today...I used to find them really uncomfortable but this one was fine....the speculum didn't really hurt and didn't really get that scrapy feeling you get. Made me a bit anxious that she didn't go high enough but maybe she was just really experienced or maybe I am now just very used to people opening my bits up and sticking stuff up there 🤣🤣

Oneday that is such good news about your positive test!! Congratulations, I hope you are doing okay and that things are progressing as they should be. Xx

Hey HDT!

Your smear test made me laugh, I think you probably are just so used to be prodded now that it didn’t bother you 😂😂 glad you’ve been able to use the time wisely and get all your tests booked in xx

No last cycle I started on 2 a day rather than 1 the cycle before so 6 is quite a jump. It’s just because last cycle I went from 2, to 4 on day 6 and 6 from day 10 and lining still wasn’t thick enough. So they added 4 more to be taken vaginally. So it was the 2 oral and 4 vaginal I’ve had from the off. So it is A LOT. So we just have to hope for the best on Monday now 🤞🏼not sure I can mentally take a cancelled cycle but almost bracing for it.

Kate and Oneday, hope you’re feeling ok for upcoming transfer and scan next week xxx

Ps has anyone watched Making Babies with Alex Jones? It’s fab if you haven’t x

Ah man that is annoying. I'm sorry to hear you are being put through it! I really hope that lining is getting nice and thick ready to receive that blasto! If your not already doing so I heard vitamin E, D3 are supposed to help linings too.

I hope things get on track for you, let us know what they say on Monday x

Oh I am pleased 🤗
....I really hopeful that the tests will either catch something (ideally with an easy remedy) or make you feel confident in your next protocol. We have such little control over this entire process but we are doing all we can which has got to mean something! Right?!?

So funny what you said about the smear...I am so used to people poking about down there I let a student count my follicles on one occasion...she was there for so long the other nurse couldn't watch any more and asked to take over 🤭.

I'm OK I was contacted by EPU on behalf of the recurrent miscarriage clinic, they've booked me for a scan Monday! My Care one is on Tuesday but I suppose I'll wait to see what they say. If things look ok I will push the Care one to the following week which was when they originally wanted me to come in anyway.

I just feel a mix of petrified and meh!!! I have had nothing but bad news at scans but will do my digital with weeks with FMU on Monday so I have heads up if things have gone completely left!

Defo trying to remain pragmatic about this entire process, another lady on a post said it best, being too positive means you have further to fall so I'm trying to remain neutral.. although my husband wouldn't agree, he has not seen me after 8pm for 2 weeks bc I am trying to manage my feelings and get as much rest as possible.

Oh Oneday, I am so sorry to hear that. Got everything crossed for you that it is just some normal bleeding. I hope you get some answers soon!

Gembryo- gosh, that all sounds very complicated with different doses at different times in the cycle! I was just on 3 tablets a day from the off for my FET and they have just stuck with that for this mock cycle. I didn't know you could take those tablets vaginally...they are so small....I can't decide if that would make it easier or harder to do (lol). I think it is a total myth but some people say pomegranate is also good for linings.
I hope you get some good news on Monday- if it is cancelled hopefully they will make some amendments for your next cycle. Each cycle is like a learning something new isn't it! xx
