PGS
Can someone help me understand the process of PGS? Do I have to go through a regular cycle, then hope I can get blastocytes, but then they freeze them and don't put them in until another cycle? So I'd have to do a regular cycle and a frozen? So wouldn't that mean a lot more drugs as well?

Re: PGS
Hello, when we did PGS we did a regular IVF cycle through egg collection & growing the embryos. Then they took a few cells from the embryos to send off for testing - meanwhile the embryos were frozen. For us, testing took 3 weeks. While you're waiting, you'll bleed and start your cycle. If the tests come back ok, then you would start on medication for about 15 days until your body is ready for implantation.
So it does take longer. But it could be worth it as some literature says that it can increase your chances of pregnancy because:
- PGS detects chromosome abnormalities that would lead to unsuccessful IVF anyways
- FET allows your body time to recover from the stimulation drugs and that may increase chances of implantation/pregnancy
(I know that a lot of places still only do fresh transfer through, so there is divided opinion on this)
Hope that helps

Re: PGS
Thank you East Coaster. It is on my protocol but I may still have a fresh transfer too depending on how many eggs I get and the quality of my embryos...(if I get to that phase of course). I'm 37 and will just have to see how it goes. I don't think my Dr. will do the PGS if I don't get many eggs which probably is likely as I have DOR. I'll be cycling soon and getting very nervous again!
